Everyday, we receive so many reports about players being hacked, phished, scammed , and soo much more. While we try our best to always warn you about the scams/hacks that are terrorizing our little town of Yoville, it is also important that you know how to protect yourselves, and that you take extra steps in order to do so.
1. What can you do to try to prevent your facebook from being hacked?
-Make a special email for your facebook that no one knows about and have that be the email for your facebook. If a hacker gets your email then all they need to do is figure out your password to either your email or your facebook. Keeping your email private keeps that piece of the puzzle out of a hacker’s hands.
-Make sure you have security questions on your email account that only you know the answers to.
-Make sure your email is not visible to anyone other than you on your facebook profile.
To do this go to account, then privacy settings, then customize settings. Under contact information where it has your email click the pull down arrow and select custom, then select “only me” and save.
-Don’t show your year of birth in your birthday on your facebook profile. No one needs to know what year you were born and if they have it, it’s just one more piece of your information that they can use to get into your email or account.
To do this go to the info tab, then edit. For your birthday -select “show only month and day in my profile”.
2. What do you do if you find out you are actively being hacked?
-First stay calm because you need to act fast and freaking out won’t help so take a deep breath. Make a brand new email account. Add this email to your facebook. Then go back to your email and verify it for facebook (they should send you an email to do this – open the email and click the link to verify it). Go back to facebook and delete the old email.
To add email to facebook: go to account, then account settings, click change by the email section, then type in new email where it says new email. Then click add new email. Enter your password when prompted.
To delete old email go to account, then account settings, click change by the email section, then select the new email as your contact email and click change contact email. Enter your password. Then once your contact email is the new one you just created. Click where it says remove to the right of the old email. Enter your password when prompted.
-If your password has been changed and facebook isn’t letting you in to do any of this, try to reset your password by having facebook send you a notification to your old email. Go to your email, open the email from facebook and try to follow the steps to change it. Once you get into your facebook add a new email and delete the old one as fast as you can as instructions above.
Make a brand new password to your facebook for the new email that is brand new.
Clear the caches on any and all internet browsers that you use (i.e. IE, FF, Chrome, etc.).
-If someone is online in your yoville account and you get back into your facebook, this will however not stop kick them out of your account. What you should do once you are safely back in your facebook is to go to yoville and keep hitting refresh over and over. If you manage to get loaded to the same server the hacker is on, then you will kick them off. Otherwise if you get into the game, you can try to trade your coins and items to a safe account if you have a friend or family member you trust enough to do that. However, you should be severely cautious with whom you give your password to. If you have someone help you with trading, you should change that password again ASAP when you are finished trading.
3. What do you do after you have been hacked?

-Be sure to explain when you were hacked and be as specific as you can on timing and items that you lost. Check your email for their response and reply and follow up with them by responding to their emails if you do not hear back from them in a certain amount of time.
