The new United Kingdom furniture release has hidden educational value or perhaps not so hidden to some. It teaches us clearly the importance of scale.
We at YoRehab have been looking with interest at the latest United Kingdom furniture release. We want to clear the fact that we aren’t perfectionists or even that picky really. However, what has arrived in-store this week has certainly left us wondering.
We love to decorate. We love it as much as you do but the latest release from the developers at Zynga has left us wondering whether things are that bad there at Zynga that they may not even be able to afford a ruler between them. That is, we are hoping, the latest release was done by several developers and not just one that lacks the capability to recognize the importance of scale. Scale is an important measurement – it makes items appear relative to each other in size. When items are made, whether it be in real life, cartoon, animation, model, dolls house, play-scale or whatever- scale is important. We are thinking that scale was overlooked in this instance again.
We are supposing that the items of furniture released were done by several different developers that didn’t have time after making their contributions to get together and check for compatibility of scale or to pre-arrange the scale that items were to be created by. Am I talking in riddles? Perhaps we should take a look.
As you can see, in the above screenshot, there is a chair by a table which has a bowl of salad on it. Not much wrong in theory but looking at the top of the chair-back, it barely reaches the table top. Taking into consideration that there is a salad bowl on it, this would be taller than the person sat at the table. That is if it were a normal sized salad bowl which this is definitely not. It is a huge salad bowl by anybody’s standards or is it that it’s just a small chair?
On trying out the chair for size, we managed to draw a conclusion to that question.
Yes, it does seem to be a rather small chair given the fact that the Agent sat on it is a standard YoVille avatar. As you can see, there is no visible chair now. As for the salad in the bowl on the table, no real problem there if you don’t wish your avatars to eat using plates and cutlery because as you see, there is simply no room left to place them.
Are we just picking? Making problems for the sake of making them? What is one oversight in the face of a whole release?
Well, nothing that can’t be rectified but what if it weren’t the only problem. What if the whole release was full of similar problems. We could go on and on telling you each item that was out of scale from the others but rather than send you to sleep with all these comparisons picked one by one. We thought that we could let you see for yourselves in one fell swoop!
See what we mean? Obviously all these items don’t go in the same room so I hear you say ‘What does it matter that the shower cubicle is smaller than the door frame and much smaller than the kitchen dresser?’ ‘What does it matter that the dressing table is bigger than the bathtub?’ ‘Does it really matter that the bed is so much bigger than anything?’ ‘Or that the fireplace is totally humungous in comparison to all other items?’
Perhaps to you this may not matter one bit. You could be one of those people that is really unperturbed by the fact that your salad will tower above you or that the jardinere swamps your chair or even that you appear to be an ant next to your fireplace and bed.
Who would even care that their chair would be so out of scale when in the same picture as their sofa, like so.
Or that your bathtub would fit nicely on to your sofa with room almost to sit at the side of it.
We at YoRehab are by no means fussy and picky over our purchases but we do expect a little thought into items that we are planning to purchase. We are sure that you also have standards.
This is not the first time we have had problems with the scale of items created for us by Zynga. Some of you may remember the Italian theme where Sofas and chairs were released then more were released in a different scale to fix the problems caused by the production and sale of oversized items.
How does this happen we wonder. How is it that Zynga developers can release items of different scales in one release? Are they not checked for consistency before being released?
Did you notice the scale discrepancy of this release? Have you reported the issue or have you just ‘made do’ with the items you have bought? Or maybe you didn’t wish to purchase items that most obviously were out of scale. We would love to hear your thoughts on this. Please comment in the box below.
